An atmosphere of rural peace is projected around the British Sovereign Base area  which the village is nestled up against. Cypriot life continues unaffected by the green line which is less than a mile away from Pyla's village centre. The old village of Pyla still retains a traditional friendly Cypriot atmosphere. Here you will find both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots enjoying life in the same village.
